Did you know? Right now, there are people doing Google searches for information about your local housing market? Lots and lots of Google searches. They’re looking for information about local home prices, neighborhoods, real estate trends and more. If you want to capitalize on this internet search activity, you need to have a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy in place.

This article provides five SEO tips for real estate agents. These tips and strategies will help you increase your website traffic and attract potential clients online.

Top 5 SEO Tips for Real Estate Agents

Search engine optimization is the act of improving your website so that it becomes more visible online, for people using Google, Bing and Yahoo. Much of it comes down to content and links. If you publish quality content online, and gradually acquire links from other websites, you’ll enjoy greater search engine visibility.

Here are five SEO tips for real estate agents, to help you accomplish this goal.

1. Include keywords in the titles of your web pages.

Search engines use lots of different “clues” to understand what a particular web page is about. The page title is one of the most important elements. By adding specific keywords and phrases to your page titles, you can improve your search engine ranking and visibility for those topics.

For example, if I want to attract people who are doing searches relating to the “San Diego real estate market in 2016,” I would need to write an article about this topic and include those keywords within the title. When I talk about the page title in this context, I’m talking about the title that’s visible to readers, and also the HTML title that is displayed within search results.

2. Include your city name on key pages of your website.

This is one of the most important real estate SEO tips for on-site optimization. It’s also frequently neglected. Home buyers and sellers research their local housing markets specifically, and they do this by including a city name within their search queries.

If you want to connect with these people online, you have to let search engines know what city you represent. So make sure your website content (and those page titles we talked about above) include your city name whenever applicable. If you want to attract clients in several cities, you should have content for each of them. For example, you could publish housing market updates for each of the cities you want to target.

3. Create at least one text link to all important web pages.

This is another important SEO tip for real estate agents and brokers who want to boost their search engine visibility. According to Google, all of your important website pages (i.e., the ones you want people to find via search) should be reachable by at least one text think. In other words, you should have a least one text link pointing to all of your important web pages.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to create top-level category pages, and link those pages to all of the individual pages under that category.

For example, you might create a main page for all of your home buying articles, with links to each individual article. The main topic page could be included within your websites main menu. That way, everything can be reached by at least one text link, which puts a check in the box for this real estate SEO tip.

Another easy way to accomplish this is to create a sitemap with links to all of your important pages, and then link to the sitemap from your main menu, your footer menu, or both.

4. Publish original, high-quality, and keyword-rich content.

If you only remember one real estate agent SEO tip from this list, make it this one. Publishing quality content on a regular basis is one of the best things you can do to boost your website traffic and lead generation over time.

Remember, if you want to connect with people who are searching for a certain topic online, you must have content that addresses that topic.

The more articles you publish onto your real estate website, the more ways people have to find you. Every article serves as an entryway into your site. Create more entryways, and more people will find you.

5. Acquire links by publishing and promoting quality website content.

Having well-optimized, keyword-rich content on your website is the starting point for search engine optimization. But you’ll get even better SEO results if you can acquire links from other websites.

Search engines view these “backlinks” as a vote of confidence for a website. If a lot of reputable sites link to your website, you could improve your search engine rankings dramatically.

The best way to acquire links from other internet publishers is by publishing great content. In a real estate context, this might include original research and insight relating to your local housing market. You could then proactively promote your best content to other publishers, in the form of a press release or through good-old-fashioned email outreach.
